BEIJING, April 12 -- General Motors Co. (GM) said it will sell more than two million vehicles in China this year, four years ahead of schedule.
President and managing director of GM China Group Kevin Wale said Monday at a press conference the company will introduce 25 new or revised models to the world's biggest auto market by the end of next year.
The company expects to release the Chevrolet Volt, which can go travel 60 kilometers on a single electric charge, in China next year.
GM, the biggest foreign auto maker in China, reported record high monthly sales of 230,048 vehicles in March, up 67.9 percent year on year.
Sales jumped 71.4 percent from a year ago to 623,546 units in the first quarter of this year.
The average fuel efficiency of GM vehicles sold in China has increased 20 percent in the past five years, Wale said.
The company is committed to further lowering its cars' oil consumption and helping reduce vehicle emissions, he added.
Cars sold in China will be more environmentally friendly, comfortable and safe, Wale said.
