China's stocks closed lower Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.19 percent, or 5.34 points, to close at 2,866.36.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 0.02 percent, or 2.46 points, to end at 12,536.55.

Combined turnover shrank from Friday's 270.32 billion yuan (40.3 billion U.S. dollars) to 260.7 billion yuan.
