European Community Trademark Registration
Community Trademark Applications are processed by the Interior Market Harmonising Office located in Alicante (Spain) or by any given Office of Patents and Trademarks of a Member Country, and do not require the existence of a base trademark in the country of origin.

Applications must be capable of being applied for by any physical or juridical person established in the Member States or in those countries that form part of the Union Convention of Paris.

Community trademarks are granted for a period of 10 years, are renewable indefinitely for equal periods and are granted for all Member States, allowing for the same rights as the national trademark in each country and at a very reasonable, proportional cost.

The Member Countries of the European Union

There are 25 member countries of the European Union, namely: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, The Slovak Republic and Slovenia.

Cost estimate for Trademark Applications in the EU

(For one trademark per class and for simple straightforward applications). (Based on prevailing exchange rates with the HK$ and Euro (1.00 Euro = HK$ 9.5, rounded up to the nearest HK$) HK$ Euros.

I. SEARCH (Optional) Availability Search (One mark/one class in 25 member countries):
(a) On-line Availability Search (optional but recommended)
(IPIHK can arrange a search in Hong Kong by paid on-line systems, but the mark should be in character form. The aim of the search is to find out whether there are any filed/registered similar or identical marks which may bar your application. The fees consist of conducting the search in the Trademarks Registry, obtaining relevant print-outs and reviewing and reporting the search results with advice on registration)
(b) Word or Device search (conducted in EU )

II. FILING OF APPLICATION
(For one mark; minimum/first three [3] classes) Multi-class application - each additional class (from the 4th class of the same mark) $7,774 $818
Fees consist of preparing and handling the required Power of Attorney document, filing the application and reporting the status of the filing particulars.
